Equimundo’s Tim Shand will present on evidence-based interventions to involve boys in sexual and reproductive health programming in a webinar on October 2, hosted by The Challenge Initiative.

Led by the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, The Challenge Initiative aims to sustainably scale up evidence-based approaches to increasing the use of modern contraceptive methods in urban poor areas. On October 2, 2018, The Challenge Initiative will host the first webinar in its new Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health “Office Hours” Series. The webinar will focus on the effective involvement of boys in programming to improve adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH).

Engaging men and boys in sexual and reproductive health, particularly family planning, can improve health outcomes for men, women, and children. Moreover, involving boys in AYSRH programming can have a positive effect into adulthood, promoting critical reflections on masculinity and gender equality as well as health prevention and seeking behaviors. Despite the literature emphasizing the importance of involving them, boys and men are often overlooked in traditional sexual and reproductive health programs.

In this webinar, presenters Tim Shand, Vice President of Advocacy and Partnerships at Equimundo, and Dominick Shattuck, Senior Research Officer at the Institute for Reproductive Health, will:

  • Describe the different needs and programming considerations/challenges when working with 15 to 19 year-old and 20 to 24 year-old young men;
  • Provide examples of evidence-based interventions working with both of these age groups;
  • Share measurement considerations and programmatic results related to outcomes.

RSVP here for the webinar at 8:30am EDT on October 2, 2018.
