The Man Box report, launched by Equimundo and Axe, is a new study on young men’s attitudes, behaviors, and understandings of manhood. The research was conducted with a representative, random sample of young men aged 18 to 30 in the US, UK, and Mexico, and reveals that most men still feel pushed to live in the “Man Box” – a rigid construct of cultural ideas about male identity.
The norms of the Man Box are centered around seven pillars of what “Real Men” are supposed to be, which include:
- Self-sufficiency
- Acting tough
- Physical attractiveness
- Adhering to rigid gender roles
- Heterosexuality
- Sexual prowess
- Using aggression to resolve conflicts.
