The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) hosted the 13th AWID International Forum, “Feminist Futures: Building Collective Power for Rights and Justice,” from September 8 to 11, 2016 in Costa do Sauípe, Bahia, Brazil.
The forum brought together 1,854 participants from 120 different countries to strategize on building collective power for women’s rights, gender justice, and feminist futures. Feminist, environmental, economic justice, and human rights groups – among many others – collectively analyzed past challenges and future opportunities for solidarity.
On September 5 and 6, Equimundo’s Mohara Valle participated in AWID’s Black Feminisms Forum (BFF). BFF, in the lead up to the AWID Forum, aimed to celebrate the contributions of Black feminists, provide a space for cross-movement exchange and strategizing, and deepen solidarity among these activists around the world.
On September 11, Equimundo’s President and CEO Gary Barker presented “Strategies for Building a Movement of Men to End Violence Against Women” at the forum, along with Mallika Dutt, President and CEO of Breakthrough. This panel explored effective strategies to transform gender norms and engage men as allies and partners in the movement to end all forms of violence against women.
Equimundo also hosted a booth at the forum showcasing the organization’s work and providing an opportunity for attendees to talk to Equimundo’s staff, read the organization’s publications, and watch its films.
