Overview
We believe it is possible and necessary to mobilize men and boys to create a non-violent, more equitable, and caring world. Much of the work up to this point with men and boys for gender equity and social justice has been limited to individual-level change at a small scale. Institutional and systemic change is necessary, however, decision-makers in local and national government, companies, and media are often not aware of the potential influence over masculinities and equitable caregiving their actions may have, or place these at a low priority. Consequently, they are less likely to take action and mobilize resources accordingly.
At the same time, a global backlash against gender equality is gaining power, political and policy debates are growing ever more polarized at the expense of human rights, and the internet fosters greater disconnection and radicalization, sometimes even sparking violence. We are backsliding on important measures of gender equality regarding time spent on unpaid care work, income and career progression. The time to act is now.
How we define advocacy
We believe advocacy means moving policies and moving people.
We focus on influencing policy change and on shifting narratives to affect public perceptions and practices.
Our advocacy audiences
Shifting national and local public policies to enable healthy masculinities and boyhoods and support gender equal caregiving.
With our connections to national civil society organizations across the world who already advocate towards these goals, access to international comparative policy data, and evidence about which policies work in which contexts, we believe we can shift policies at the local and national level. We have also developed the MenCare Parental Leave Platform and MenCare 50/50 Commitment platforms as models for policy advocacy, based on research.
Engaging media to promote healthy masculinities and menโs and boysโ emotional connection and ability to receive and give care.
Men and boys spend much of their time online, and the material and relationships experienced here deeply influence gendered norms and attitudes. Equimundoโs partners are actively engaging with social media and online gaming companies to get them to improve their practices and guarantee safer spaces. There is increasing interest from the general population on the effects that radical influencers can have on children and young men.
Advocating for companies to adopt policies and practices that create an enabling environment for male allyship, gender equality and workplace cultures of equal care

Our advocacy happens in partnership
Equimundoโs advocacy process depends on collaboration with partners in countries, where local partnersโ objectives are aligned with our advocacy goals and objectives. Equimundo will therefore collaborate with partner organizations to influence target audiences in-country, and will not advocate independently within a national context.ย
Equimundo looks to strengthen the capabilities of their partners to conduct advocacy work at a national level and looks to open up spaces for them to join regional and global conversations (tracking resolutions, promoting dialog with global stakeholders, etc.).
